They are not always 8 minute quaters. Minnesota state high school basketball now has 10 minute quarters instead of 8 (this just happened in the past few years) so on average I would say high school games average 32 minute to 40 minutes of playing time, factor in time outs and half-times and you are talking what most people have said about 75-90 minutes.

It depends on how many time the clock stops during the game. An average game usually lasts about a hour or a little more. There are 8 minutes in a quarter and 10 minutes at half-time so 8(4) + 10 = 42 minutes plus the time the clock is not running.

Common HighSchool games in my area with 8 min quarters typically last 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes. "Bigger" games tend to last from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. Varisty games tend to last the same time, and State tourny games maybe like 10 to 20 min longer depending on if it's broadcasted on das TV.
