I strained a muscle beneath my right shoulder blade and over my right rib cage, maybe its two separate muscles. I always feel like I have to cough up flem. Its really painful, I usually have to grab onto something when I cough. Am I reinjuring my strained muscles by doing this? I have had to sleep or at least try to sleep sitting up for the last 3 nights. Its too painful to lay down and get back up.Also I usually feel like I have to cough when I lay down.I can't be still and cough. I got injured 6 days ago. Anyone know anything about this. I've read lots on strained muscles, but no mention of this coughing matter. Please answer if you do. Thanks.

It may not be a strained muscle, if you have to cough so much, I think it may be you have pleurisy. Urge you to see a doctor and make sure.
