My doctor recently prescribed me Metformin. Due to the fact that my husband and I have not been able to concieve. Along with that my menstrals are extremely irregular. I was previously on Provera and Clomid for 3 months- Which had neg. results. Well these are my instuctions for taking Metformin:
Week #1 - Take one tablet
Week #2- Take two tablets
Week #3- Take three tablets.
The doctor said that I should expect my period around Week 6.
My doctor also said that Metformin will give me really bad side effects. Which I am concerned about. But I would like to know if there is anyone out there who is in the same boat I am in. Also does the doctors recommended dosage (Medication for a straight 3-weeks) sounds ok? I have never been on medication for a straight 3 weeks. Also, has anyone had a positive result while on Metformin?
Thanks in advance for your help !!!

My guess is that you like me have PCOS.

I was diagnosed in May, put on Metformin, bc and a testerone-reducing medication.

While my ovulation was still normal, the doctor told me that I would probably have trouble getting pregnant and had a high risk of miscarriage.

I had a very strong reaction to Metformin. I was only able to take half of my dose from May to November because the diarrhea was too bad.

In November, the diarrhea increased again. I thought it was a worsening Metformin reaction, but learned that I was pregnant.

So, yes, it does work. It's worked for many women, but for a few of us, it's rough on the stomach.

I would recommend staying home for the first few days until you know how you will react to it. For me, it was like an enema and dehydrated me badly.

If you have problems, let your doctor know. I am sure he will tell you to length out the time between when you increase your dose (such as increase every two weeks instead of every week).

I hadn't heard of Metformin being used for fertility treatments, so that aspect of it is new to me. However, I did just read a web page relating to Metformin as it relates to fertility, and you should find it informative. It's at the below link.
For a different condition, I do take Metformin each day, and have done so for the last three years with no side effects at all. So, I wouldn't worry about taking the drug as prescribed by your physician. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

metformin is to lower you blood glucose level, so it is perfectly safe to be on, i was in the same boat but i took medroxyprogesterone to start a period (i do not recommend that medicine) i might actually start the same thing you are doing soon, but i never had any side effects when using it before.
