Hello,

I have asked this question to all around me but without solution. So you are my last resort.

Here is my home network config:
2 PC
1 LAPTOP
1 switch
1 DSL router

All went fine until recently. One of my PC is unable to stay connected on the switch. It shows it is connecting and disconnecting all the time. All the others are OK. So I checked the cable, checked the switch, changed the NIC, changed the PCI slot, disable the power management of the NIC. Nothing helped. Even disconnecting all the other PC from the switch and just keeping the the problematic PC and the uplink connected does not solve the problem.

The only thing that helps is when I am connecting that PC directly to the DLS router.

Any idea, hint or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Of course, I have tried to plug different ports of the switch.

I found a solution to my problem. I configured the NIC to work on 10 MBps full duplex rather than 100.

It is strange because all other computers are working on 100 MBPS.
At least it works but anybody has an idea why is that so ?

If you found the problem and if what you mention is the cause the switch is bad or it is not an auto-sensing switch or it is just a straight 100 switch.

I am assuming that you checked the switch by just plugging another device into it. I have had the experience of having two devices negotiate themselves into a deadlock when connecting. The only way to get them to forget that failed attempt was to hard reset them. Unplug the switch and the PC (not just turn it off). Plug in the switch and wait for it to come up fully. Then plug in and start the PC. Should fix it. Basic rule of troubleshooting is to look for the one cause of all of your problems(multiple faults are rare).

there is not any situation in installation a 2d NIC on the device. in certainty in case you get the two NIC's working you could placed a sturdy firewall or caching proxy to make the device act as gateway on your LAN. yet whilst your onboard NIC is under guarantee. get it replaced.

have you tried plugging the cable from the problem pc into another ethernet port in the switch? maybe that one output port is faulty, try a friends router or switch to see if its in the switch itself
