As you can see from my profile and questions - I am a student studying law. I intend to graduate and fight the rights of sex offenders. I know, I know... I have heard it all.... Even sex offenders deverse a second chance and not be punished twice (Once by trial/second by public!!!)

NOW, from what I see from most of the responses - everytime I ask a question and put the word "sex offender"... I get mostly the same response. "ANYBODY WHO HURTS A CHILD LOSES THEIR RIGHT"... Some people are just braindead... I DIDN'T SAY CHILD MOLESTER... I said SEX OFFENDER... All child molesters are sex offenders, but not all sex offenders are child molesters.

My question now is this... and I would love to hear from the people who answered my previous questions with "Child molesters have lost their rights" (which is another story)

Do you think just because someone is labeled as a sex offender that he/she physically molested a child???

It doesn't matter, if they are a sex offender or a child molester, they all have violated someones rights in the worst way possible and deserve to be shot. And why do I have to be brain dead if my opinion differs from yours??

Leroy, I'm takeing it asn though your question is should the two crimes be stated when labeling the person as a "sex offender". Of course from what you have seen as answers it should be posted as f the one was involved with a child or an adult. Pretty much the nature of the crime. As far as I see it and no I don't support sexual crimes but when a person is listed as a "sexuall predator" the crime should be detailed from the arrest to the courtroom to the conviction. The public should be able to view the 'WHOLE" story involving the individual from beginning to end without searching for facts surrounding the case. It's like you just said, all offenders are classified as child molesters, when in Georgia there is actually a thing called "marriagall rape". I'd hate to think because I proceede when my "WIFE" said no, put me on the same list with someone that raped a 8 year old little boy.You have a GOOD question and yea it should be seperated as to what the crime was.

Sex Offender is a generic label that titles a crime, however I do think that each offense should have a alpha/numeric level
so that society can be better educated about the type of offense so that a clear determination can be made, if it was in an adult relationship inappropriate touching , fondling,
or rape, I do not believe that just because you are labeled that you are a child molester, But I do agree that the public should know the difference and most times they do not have enough information on the crime because believe it or not some people lie about what really happened. words such as assault, molested, and rape are used interchangeably to describe crime a better text and or dialog would give a better understanding to society when reviewing case history and making judgments on what is rape? or what is molestation?.

Yeah Arcticchick, all liberals LOVE child molesters. I was agreeing with you until you came up with that little pearl.

Many people do not understand the difference between sex offender and child molesters...these are often the same people that believe it is gay men that molest children. That Liberal in me thinks that it is indeed unfair to slap that one nasty label on anyone charged with a "sex crime" There are a lot of people on sex offender registries that shouldn't be You are right, that is the first thing people assume, this person is a child molester. When in fact, it could be as simple as an 18 year old dating a 16 year old...the laws do need to be changed, or at least the labels. Good luck to you.

I do know the difference, but I'm not one of those people that answered your first question. However, I have to admit that when I read the words "sex offender", I really did automatically think "child molester" Child molesters are so reviled by society, it really is difficult to avoid thinking it.

I would love to know why you chose to fight for the rights of sex offenders. Most people just wouldn't take up that line without a personal story.

I do think it's unfair to lump a streaker with a child molester, or even a guy in his early twenties sleeping with a mature looking sixteen year old with someone molesting very small children.

sex offender
A sex offender is a person who has been criminally charged and convicted of, or has pled guilty to, a sex crime. As a label of identity it is used in criminal psychology. Especially in the United States and the United Kingdom, the person, if convicted, is most likely required to register with the respective jurisdiction's sex offender registry.

Child sexual abuse is the sexual assault of a minor or, according to the American Psychological Association , sexual activity between a minor and an older person in which the dominant position of the older person is used to coerce or exploit the younger. Child sexual abuse is illegal in all countries about which information is available. Although these laws differ in detail, all set an age - typically near puberty - under which all sexual contact with adults is deemed abusive. Above this age, sexual contact may be judged abuse depending on the use of violence or coercion or the type of relationship involved.

Now that you know i know the diffrence I will let you know i still think they deserve NO Rights after they Harmed Women and Children!

"Sex Offender" (where that term is defined) refers to anyone who has violated a broad category of laws.

Depending on the state, that may include everything from streaking during a college demonstration to urinating in public -- whole categories of crimes that never involve any contact with (nor any harm to) any another person, child or adult.

You are absolutely correct -- the category "child molester" and "sex offender" are not the same. Just as "felon" and "mass murderer" are not the same.

The problem in this country (and many others) is that people get so hung up on labels, and then fail to accurately define the label, which ends up making most rallying cries almost meaningless.

I think there are degrees to sex offenders - and there are some, a streaker or an 18 year old convicted of statutory rape when it was consenting, really get a bum rap because of the stigma associated with the words sex offender.

That being said - I think rapists deserve to rot in hell along side the child molestors and have zero rights. You can defend them til your purpil and that's your perogative - I work in a "not so popular" area of the law myself, but don't expect to make to many friends.

No, of course not! And I think we need to redo the classification on that - a kid who streaked his graduation can be classified as a sex offender. DEFINITELY not in the same category as a baby predator!

But I *do* think all baby predators should be shot. Well, really, I think they should be buried alive, like poor little Jessica Lundsford was, but the liberals would never approve.
