Hah, I do the same thing! I thought it was just me, when I take a date out to eat I check out the way she treats the servers. If she is indifferent to them or treats them like they are there only to serve them type attitudes then that will be the last date I take them on.

In my eyes, that will be the way she treats me when the honeymoon is over and real life settles in lol.

The way people treat any kind of service person is a good indicator of their character. And massively overtipping a server is a huge turn off to me when it is done in an obvious manner. It lets me know that the big tipper is doing it just to appear in the best light for me and for the others dining with them.

Another good indicator of a persons character is the way they interact with pets and children. Both are good tests of a person's patience.

Well, for a start, I try not to be too judgemental of others. We all have our faults and excentricities. Having said that, over the years I have developed a fairly good sense of when someone is a phony.

My wife told me that was one of things that really attracted her about me. So people definitely do that. To get to know one's character takes a long time to know. In a first meeting, I watch their eyes and I watch how they speak, interupting, loud, etc.

I watch people of how they act when they first encounter you. Do they not make eye contact with you (that means they're shy or not confident). Do they talk fast or slow (that means they're nervous). What's their first reaction when they meet you? I watch for body communication more than what they say.

I have actual conversations with them instead of trying to draw conclusions based on isolated incidents.
