Hamlet's Father has died, and Gertrude, Hamlet's mother, has married Claudius, the brother of her dead husband. Claudius takes over the throne.

It is thought that Hamlet's father died naturally, but then the ghost of Hamlet's father appears to him and tells him that it really was murder.

Hamlet isn't really sure if that's reliable information, so he stages a play to see if Claudius is guilty. When Claudius leaves the audience in the middle of the play, Hamlet knows Claudius really did kill Hamlet's father.

So yes, the revenge is justified.

His uncle killed his father and married his mother! Hamlet's absolutely justified!

His vengeance would seem to have been justified, but it came at too great a cost- i.e., his own destruction of the destruction of the ones around him. While his indecision forms his main character flaw, his unebbing sense of vengeance is his other.
