I'm a huge horror film fan, but I've rarely been scared by a movie. The Exorcist did the job, though. And I saw "Jaws" when I was young, and that movie has always scared the hell out of me. I still hear that music when I step into the ocean.

Halloween and Carpenter's "The Thing" are also on my list for frights.

One film that really scared me that isn't even technically horror is "Requiem for a Dream". The ending to that film will give you nightmares.

The scariest movie I ever saw was the original hitcher. The one with thomas c howell. I think it scared me most because it was something that could actually happen. Unlike movies like freddy kruger that were totally make believe.

"The Haunting", 1963. Best haunted house movie. Hardly any special effects, just good acting, well written, creepy surroundings. The remake wasn't nearly as good.

I don't really like scary movies, but my favorite if I had to pick one would probably be M. it's not that gory or anything, but it still manages to be pretty scary. also, I like Alfred Hitchcock's movies =)
