I have read a few questions about checking your cervix to see if it softening or dialating and some say it is bad and some say they have done it. I would be too afraid to mess around up there but have any of you done this and noticed anything? Curiosity I guess. I just don't think we would be able to tell without a doctor.

Hundreds and Hundreds of woman do it everyday... Lay back in your computer chair and put your feet on the desk... *( thats what my friend would do to check hers )*... wash your hands first... and remember having sex a penis goes up there too.. so a little finger no harm done... :-) good luck!

I think you have to stick your finger really really far up there to feel your cervix. Without experience, I don't think you could tell how effaced you are, but possibly dialation is another matter.

By the way, I was told at my childbirth class that you should never insert anything vaginally (fingers or penis) after your water has broken because the infection risk is dramatic. In fact, you should decline most vaginal exams--even those from professionals--after your water has broken because it can force bacteria and bad germs into the uterus.

I have tried. I figure as long as I wash my hand it is OK. Not like hubby sticking, um, himself in there would be good if you couldn't stick your own finger in there. You know what I mean? I can't figure out what anything is so I leave it up to my doctor.

I've read that sometimes women try to check themselves. Honestly, even if I wanted to I wouldn't know what I was checking for. I wouldn't do it!

I did it once or twice. But once I knew I was pregnant I haven't done it since. It can cause infection I guess...but yes I have done it.

PLease leave it to the doctor unless you are full term. scratching the cervix can cause labor to start.

i personally wouldn't recommend trying it as it is impossible for you to reach by yourself also it could possibly bring on an early labour

I thought they meant their doctor had checked them, not that they checked it themselves.......
