a regular polygon with odd number sides = the number of sides

a regular polygon with even number of sides = the number of sides times 2

square = 4 sides (even number)= 8 lines of symmetry (4x2)
pentagon = 5 sides (odd number)= 5 lines of symmetry

Actually, it's n lines of symmetry for any n-sided polygon, odd or even. Take the time to draw the lines, you'll find out.
