The other day, my debit card was overdrawn because of stupid annual subscription fee I wasn't watching. After that, there were small pending charges so the bank hit me with an insufficient funds fee of $100! Now just out of curiousity (not saying that I will do this). If I was to tell my bank that the charges from the website annual fee that put me into negative were unauthorized, will they investigate? My sister told me to do this. Will the bank contact the company themselves and find out? Is it punishable by law?

Don't attack me, I'm not a scammer and I probably won't do this but I'm curious if people CAN actually do this at get away with it.

Thanks

You can do what I did recently.... I wanted to stop a certain company billing me as I didn't want their services which they kept pushing into my hands.. I reported my debit card to the bank as being lost.. the bank disabled the card and sent me a new one...

That's why i always give out my debit # instead of a checking account #.. It's easier to change a check card..

You have to fill out a form swearing the charges were unauthorized and explaining in detail what happened. Yes they will investigate before refunding.
and yes fraud, even for a small INSF fee, is punishable by the law

If this is your first Mistake. Go into the bank, bring cash and ask them to waive the insufficient funds fees. Sometimes banks will waive the fees for real good customers.

There are very little protections for debit cards. It's unwise to use them in the first place.
