Why work when there are countless slaves toiling away, trading their lives and creativity for a lie?

The system was created for a purpose. To fight it is foolish. To feed it is worse.

Which republicans say that people on welfare are living the great life?

I also haven't heard Republicans say anything like that (although I am not a card carrying Republican so who knows). It is the Republicans wishes to fix the welfare system so that people can be weened off of welfare sooner and not be create a lifelong cycle of benefits for families. Republicans generally rally around the theme of individual accountability, meaning there shouldn't be any free handouts, but you should earn it. That sounds pretty good to me. Currently there are a lot of people who receive welfare who are not held to any accountability or standards and can live on it forever. We need to put stricter requirements on the receipt of welfare. I think that may be what the Republicans are getting at. One of the things I have heard as far as accountability include requiring proof of work after a certain period, and proof of retaining work in order to receive welfare. This sounds like a good thing to me.

I have seen first hand some people that live pretty good on welfare. They may live in government housing, but they drive sweet rides, have huge flat screen tv's and stereos and eat like royalty. Some may not see that as a great life, but some of them do. In fact, some of my aquaintences had it so good they would be trying to dish off some of their grub to me when I didn't have a lot (and wasn't on welfare). I wouldn't say there are a ton of people who take advantage of the system but those that do give people a bad taste for the system. It's unfortunate also that the system encourages couples to remain unmarried (because they wouldn't get money if they were) and have children outside of wedlock and in a more relaxed (and more easily escapable) environment.

Just a few thoughts. Our welfare system definitely needs some tweaks. Here's hopin' our country's economy continues to thrive and unemployment stays low.

NO! while I don't believe in giving welfare to foreigners this link provides the facts. Welfare is nearly gone and unavailable to most poor people. It's not enough to live on. It has no transitional period. Once your 6 months or 2 years is up you can never get help again.

I do not think that the Republicans say that. They just say that they should move their *** and get a job and a life !! But they do not know what they are talking about because they never talked and met a guy on welfare

Loaded question

Most republicans speak about welfare as if it is a poorly run waste of money that keeps the poor locked into slavery to the government.

To be eligible you have to basically let the government run your life and tell you what to do; it is no way for a person to live (if you call that living).

No and republicans don't say that. Welfare is not designed for one to "live the good life," it's purpose is to help a person get on their feet and care for their children until they are able to work.

Not all people on welfare are idiots and I have never once claimed that.

HOWEVER - welfare fraud is HUGE. I used to be friends w/a girl, and she lived w/her boyfriend and collected welfare. To this day, I am ashamed of myself for not turning her in. She had the audacity to call me one day and whine about welfare reform - I couldn't take it anymore and blew my top. What was I so pissed about? This COW was buying a BRAND NEW TRUCK WITH WELFARE CHECKS! I finally let her have it and told her that she should just hop her ungrateful, lazy *** on down to my house and leave me the keys since *I* was paying for it. Needless to say, that was the end of our friendship.

Giving people money for nothing is NEVER a good idea. It does nothing to build their sense of self-worth and only promotes a sense of entitlement. What is so bad about wanting people to EARN their money? I'd much rather supplement the income of someone who makes the effort and just can't make ends meet than some LOSER who sits on his or her *** and whines all day. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

AND, for the record, I could quailify for disability, but I have made the CHOICE not to do it. Why? Because in spite of it all, I *am* capable of being a contributing member of society. If I can drag my sick, tired *** to work, so can anyone else.

No they don't. They struggle more than the average American. When I first divorced I got welfare. I had to raise four children on $265 a month. I got a job 6 months later. It is very hard to live on state aid.
