help understanding laptops "wireless" capability?

Question

my new laptop has wireless. i currently use aol dial up. if i turn the wireless on i cant get a signal. what do i need to do to sit on the internet on my couch? do i need high speed internet? a router? a modem? i cant get road runner at my house (in a subdivision with local cable co)... what other ISPs would work?

can someone explain all this?

are high speed/cable/broadband the same thing?

my local company charges $45 a month! are there other companies, like juno and earthlink that offer what i would need?

well if you pay for high speed & get a wireless router your laptop would be able to connect to it.

but if you live in a populated area not in the ghetto your probably should pick up a wireless connection for free these are other peoples connections but you could use them for free, mostly they are a wi-fi hot spot if you live in the city

You need a HIGH SPEED INTERNET, router to connect the the wireless card into the laptop and a modem! and install the wireless internet thing.

in order to use the laptop on ur couch u need a broandband and also a wireless router. when u sign up for the broandband they will provide u with a modem so all u need is a wireless router. and than set up the wireless ntworking. message me if u need more help...

you need a broadband ISP, perhaps your local cable co. can supply you with this, if not forget it, if they can you need a wireless access point, and most people get a wireless router, usually with a 4 port switch if you ever want to connect other pc's via ethernet cable, I really hope it will work for you, dialup sucks big time
