Never....it is an impossibility with the way they choose teams. It is based on the teams RPI....and it is not possible.

probably not before the tourney. U of M(ichigan) voluntarily took down their final 4 banners from the fab 5 days. but they were busted after the fact. In the eyes of the NCAA, those Michigan teams were never there in the first place. Too bad.

Until 1975, only one team from a conference went to the tournament. In 1974, Maryland was number 4 and lost in the conference final. They lost to eventual champion, number 1 N Carolina State.

Not since the tournament expanded to 64 (now 65) teams. Back when only conference champions made the tournament, then some of them missed out, but not since they have given out at large bids.

No, not in the AP poll. But you can go pretty high in the RPI and not get into the tournament. For instance, last year Missouri State had a RPI of 21 and did not get in.
