The baby could fall if not held properly.

The baby could get burned if the water was too hot.

The baby could drown if not securely held or if the water's too deep, or if the bather leaves the baby unattended for any length of time.

The baby could develop skin rashes or reactions to harsh soap products or shampoo.

The baby could catch cold if the water is too cool, or if the room is cold.

There's a few to start you off!

health and safety when bathing a baby is really important because you have a slippery tiny child in your arms you have to support their head and make sure the water doesnt go up there nose as they could get scared and start jumping and this may end up them not liking bathtime which is a major thing when kids get scared of water.make sure you are not crowded that there is nothing around you apart from what you need for bathing. Also something for yourself try and put the bath at a certain height as not to do your back in but not high enough for baby to fall or roll off when toweling dry. But the best advice i ever got when i asked the same question was to enjoy this special time with your baby as when you enjoy it your baby can tell they are supported and safe which makes them relax.
Relax, be safe, and most of all have fun...

good luck.

Water too hot- must be lukewarm
Using the wrong soaps and shampoo- should be gentle baby products
Not drying good enough- dry all folds also the cord must be dried properly so it doesn't cause infection, don't forget the armpits!
Baby too cold after bath- rug them up in towel, dry their head first( especially newborn)
Soap in babys ears- clean them out with wet twisted cotton ball
Soap in babys eyes- don't get any in them, get baby used to you rubbing their face over with water and your hand as they get older
Hang on to the baby- may slip and go under, when little stert them in small baby tub, as they get bigger they even enjoy the experience of the lukewarm shower- make sure your not slippery with soap.
Don't have anything unecessary around the tub- stick with things you need and maybe a toy, and make sure all your geer you need is in arms reach
Make sure hot tap if in bath tub has tuned cold before you turn it off- otherwise burnies.

the water to hot, always run the cold 1st.
a new born is better bathed in a small area ie: a baby bath or over bath baby bath as there is less room for them to slip in.
useing baby friendly products so's not to sting the eyes or sensative areas & making sure to dry baby well under the chin & in folds so's not to cause sores

If the baby's head is constantly under water, e.g everytime you bath the baby, the baby could get something called swimmers ear!

The baby could drown if left without attention in the water. The water can be too hot, the baby can slide and fall.

Depending on how old the child is. If it is a newborn you are not suppose to bath the baby unless the cord has fallen off. If the cord has fallen off you can get a baby bath tub and bathe them in it with baby wash or put them in the bath tub with you. I found that's the easiest way to give my infant a bath because our tub is so big its hard to lean over it to bathe her so which ever way you feel most comfortable to give them a bath. Just dont dump their head in the water! :o)

Umm...what do you mean health and safety issues? Don't leave them alone even for a second in water - they can drown in even one inch of water. Is that what you mean?
