I have been looking for work in the Cleveland area for nearly two months. My resume, appearance, and interviewing skills are adequate. In addition to street-level help wanted signs I have pursued work through newspaper listings and 6 employment agencies.

Most job opportunities that I contact directly do not even courtesy me with a reply. This unprofessional behavior occurs at all levels of employment, from licensed professionals to food services. I have asked for help, and I try to do each thing my friends suggest. I have had no luck. This poor luck has progressed far beyond any degree of improbability. I am stuck and almost out of ideas.

Any good advice from the yahoo community would be appreciated.

Additional details:
I have an undergraduate degree, a B.S.
I do not mind working in any particular environment, very open to employment options.

I know that I cannot quit trying to find work, but I have done nearly everything I can think of in this city. Getting frustrated.

James S: No. I can assure you. The exact same thing did not happen to you two years ago.

It would take many alphanumeric characters to explain.

I truly understand how you feel as the exact same thing happened to me 2 years ago. My heart goes out to you.

You sound like a sensible dilligent person who has done his part. Trust me, your luck will change. I hope you have friends and family to give you emotional support as well as some financial support.

I shall pray for you, halfway around the globe.

The best way to find a job is not to give up. This job market is frustrating and I have 6 months of work experience and I registerd for 4 different staffing agencies and they also put me on the waiting list. One temp agency I dropped today because their payrate was too low in the city of San Francisco. The assignment was for a file clerk and the pay rate was only $8.50. I can't survive on that pay rate and still looking.I have been unemployed for 8 months and sometimes the agencies don't have anything. .So hang in there and keep trying until you succeed.

I wish I had the magical answer for you. All you can do is to just keep trying and keep sending out resumes. Something will catch eventually. What are the agencies telling you? Are they saying that they can't find the type of jobs you want, are the wage expectations higher than what they usually have for clients?

Maybe try some career counseling? Try going to the local college career center to see what areas in your community are hiring?

Cleveland is a awful city anyway...I would just pack up and move and make a fresh start...somewhere warm is always good.
