No no no. The sun sign is your inner soul, the things you believe in the most. The moon is your heart and emotions and how you deal with them. The rising is your outer personality, your looks, and how you may come off to others at first impression. The combination of the three make up your personality.

I'll use myself as an example. My sun is in aries, moon in gemini, rising in virgo.

If you were to first meet me I would come off as shy, reserved, maybe even innocent (virgo the virgin). I'm short, very petite, light complexted with dark hair and i'm photogenic.

Once you really get to know me though I'm much more outgoing because I have observed my surroundings and I am very opinionated with lots of courage and independence. It's funny how peoples first impressions of me are ALWAYS way off. They think i am boring (i may come off that way at first) and that i'm super innocent, etc. but its because i have to warm up and observe my surroundings first.

My moon sign in gemini gives me my humor because i'm able to express my emotions easily but it also gives me the ability to be pretty fickle and cold and believe me its easy for me i'm a ***** when you mess with me i don't give a damn.

But anyway, so the three pretty much mix in together. Don't forget the influence of mercury but thats already too much stuff. I could talk forever about this but then it will get so long you won't want to read it.

sun : the position of the sun the minute you were born gives you your "sign"
and general traits
moon: gives temperment etc.
rising sign: adds to your personality traits and who will be attracted to you and vice versa.
