Take the pill. There are other studies that say taking the pill for a couple of years reduces your risk of some cancers. There's also a patch now so you don't have to take it every day.

First of all, I was on the pill on and off for the first four years of marriage. I took six months to let it get out of my system, and then when we started trying I was pregnant in three months. However, I do understand your concern. Look into barrier method a spermacide. Like a diaphram maybe. That is one of the only dependable methods that doesn't use hormones unless you want to do condoms, but guys usually aren't to crazy about that.

Condoms, nuva ring or read more into what the risks of pills really are and ask doctors, not friends and family or the internet. If your plan ISN'T to get pregnant than stick with it becuase if it really isn't something you want then it could really stress the relationship emotionally and financially. Just some thoughts.

That is cool that you want to wait! The depo shot works well....my mom has been on it for years and years. You get that every 3 months. I don't recommend the patch. I have heard it doesn't work that well. Condoms never have failed me, but they might fail you as in making the sex not as great as it could be. The pill kills the baby if you do get pregnant while on it. I dunno if all babies, but most or they have birth defects. I would go with the shot.

I personally prefer the pill. It helps regulate your periods and they are less harsh that way. The only danger from the pill is in women over 35 or women who smoke. In these cases you are more likely to develop clots. I would take some time to discuss this with your doc though, they will educate you on all forms which will help you decide what is best for you.
BTW CONGRATS on the wedding.

I personally like the birth control patch. I was on it for 1 year, got off, then got pregnant, then was on it for another year. I think it works great, it is easier to remember, and you always know when you are going to start your period. The pills are easy to forget and when I was on the depo shot it made me have my period for 3 months. But everyone is different. I would suggest trying different methods to see what works best for you.

Go to your ob/gym
There are others forms of birth control a doctor can give you beside the pill
If you do not want to get pregnant, as well as birth control, always use a condom and Spermicide
The more form of birth control you use, the less likely an surprise baby
Congratulations
Good luck

Talk to your doctor about an IUD. It can last up to five years. But it is reversible. For instance if you decided that you wanted to have a baby in two years your doctor could just remove it! It is great. You don't have to worry about taking a pill every day.

Birth control pills are very safe. Millions of women take them with no problems at all. They also cause shorter periods which is definitely a bonus.
