What's the difference between AGRESSIVE and ASSERTIVE? Can you get somewhere in life without being assertive or aggressive?

I have known women who are passive with special qualities who have been extremely successful, likewise with assertive woman. The question is where you want to go in life. Be true to yourself. If you are naturally assertive then pretending to be something you are not will cause you to be unhappy, likewise with passive behavior. The important quality that I see in assertive woman is accepting those who are not as assertive, not taking advantage of them and appreciating them. Also knowing when to be passive. Passivity is not a weakness, a truly strong, and assertive woman knows when to use it. If you are an assertive woman, unfortunately, you WILL encounter people who can not accept you, or try and cause problems. That is not your problem it is their own. As long as you are kind and do what it right, being true to yourself, you will succeed. I know it works. I am one of those very assertive woman. I am almost 40 and have been told by several insecure people (mostly woman) I would never find a boyfriend, but agreed I would be successful in whatever I wanted (career). Not only did I find a boyfriend but a husband been together about 12 years, and as I said earlier, very successful as well. Aggressiveness is seen when assertive people feel entitled and try to take advantage of others. Be careful, aggressive people also tend to be vengeful people who, in the end, hurt themselves.

Too many times in my classroom I see girls who are being passive to the boys. They will sit back and let the boys lead, even if the boys do it wrong or cannot complete an assignment as well as the girl would. That's so wrong! I'm trying to teach my 7 y/o daughter to be aassertive! I, too, grapple with the line between assertive and aggressive, but I'm not giving up.

No, girls should be assertive about what they want, especially with men. Men don't normally understand the little signals women send and would be much better off if women explained thigns clearly to them.

I think agressiveness and assertiveness are very closely linked. But just remember not to talk to someone negatively if you don't have to. I think that is the difference between the two.

There is no difference in being agressive and assertive. In order to be assertive, you must be somewhat agressive... and to answer you question: No, of course it isn't 'bad' for females to be assertive OR agressive; it's in our nature. We're humans. agressive would mean that you get things your way through violence, so its bad for either girl or boy to be agressive. its always best to be assertive because your standing your ground whileas passive would mean that your just another pushover. welcome mat. a slave. try not to be one.
