This is all about Mayan civilization and I'd be happy if someone'd answer

Stelae are stone columns which commemorated significant events: the rise of new leaders, major battles, tragedies.
Just as in ancient Rome, emperors like to build monuments to themselves, ancient Mayan rulers built monuments.

They also had a religious purpose. Many stelae depict the Gods and Goddesses the Mayans worshiped.
