Is there an avenue or protocol to send a personal letter to the presiding judge who shall handle the case?

A family being held in custody till trial date. San Francisco, CA.

Your avenue to the judge is called an attorney. Unless you are officially representing yourself, then go see the court clerk (the one who works for that particular judge).

Yes; generally your don't. However, if you must always start his ame with "Honorable" and at least his last name annd have the lawyer lok it over first so that you kow if it'll get the defendant in trouble.
