Hello, Im 16 years old, I've been getting it since I was 11. My period has never been too regular, but it would always...come, at least. Usually a day or two later than expected. Which is normal. It's been over a week since my due date, and Im really starting to get worried. I know Im not pregnant, I've never had sex before, and my boyfriend lives on the other side of the country.

I've heard of early menopause, But Ive also heard you need to be having your period for 10 years for that to happen, and I've only had mine for five. What else could it be besides menopause? Im really starting to get worried now. Thanks.

Ovulation (when you release your egg) can be delayed, and then your period can be delayed. There are a lot of things that can cause ovulation to be delayed or even skipped, and so your period will either get delayed or you won't have it. This isn't uncommon at all!

Factors that can cause you to have a delayed period include illness, weight loss, weight gain, having less than 5% body fat, travel, stress, medication, etc., etc. Are you stressed right now? or were you stressed shortly after your last period? That is when your body will ramp up for ovulation and that is when stress will affect your cycle the most!

In a book I was reading (an essential read for every woman, in my opinion, I'll cite it below) the author mentioned a woman who was freaking out because her period was late. Turns out that the time shortly after her period, there was the Northridge earthquake in L.A.! Talk about stressed out! Her ovulation and so her period were delayed because of that stress she hadn't remembered! Anywho, don't worry, you aren't pregnant! I hope this reassures you!

As a side note, if you are exercising a lot more and you think that is changing your cycle, don't stop! You are not trying to get pregnant, so it is okay to miss your period and exercise is good for you! Anywho, good luck!

Don't worry, this is completely normal at your age. Your hitting an age where you're starting to devlop more hormones to develop your body more into a full fledged woman. This can cause your periods to get out of whack for awhile. During this time, it's a good idea to start birth control pills just to help get and keep your hormones are a more level stead. But don't worry, this is way too early to even consider early menopause. That is actually pretty uncommon.

It's nothing to worry about. You could just be having an "off" month. Most women have that from time to time. If it doesn't start in the next few weeks, you may want to see a doctor, but right now, I wouldn't worry. Your eating habits and exercise habits can effect it, so try to eat well and don't exercise too much- 2-3 times a week for 30-60 mins is usually the norm.

Don't sweat it. It's nothing to worry about. You'll get it soon.

If you have not had sex....or if you have not been 'playful' when you and your boyfriend were naked together, it is not likely you are pregnant, but you do not technically have to have intercourse to get pregnant. At your age though, it is not unusual to have irregular periods. Early menopause would usually be something that happens in your 30's or 40's, not your teens. You should see your doctor if you are worried.

Dont be so worried. Let your mom know your concerns and ask if she could make an appointment with the GYN. I think once you she the GYN you will feel better. I really dont think you are going through pre-menopause....thats not going to happen for at least another 30-35 years but good thing you know about it...you are way ahead of the average 16yo for even knowing about it!!

I am 35, and my period always comes within 28 and 30 days. One month I got it after 24 days, and this month it was a week late. Different factors in your life, including stress, can cause your period to be late or early. When I was your age my period was very irregular. I wouldn't worry about it. If it starts to be consistently irregular you might want to see your gynecologist, but otherwise just relax, it will come when it is ready.
