neon signs do not always contain neon gas. the various colored lights produced by the signs are due to emission of a variety of low-pressure gases in different tubes, what are other kinds of gases used in neon signs and what are the colors that they emit?

I think what you are referring to is fluorescent lights.

Inside a fluorescent light is low-pressure mercury vapor. When ionized, mercury vapor emits ultraviolet light.

Other gasses used are almost always the other noble gasses.

Helium burns bright red, but it can also burn green with more energy applied.

Xenon glows white (as in that's the color of camera flash units).

Krypton can glow bright blue.

I don't know what color Argon burns, and I'm quite positive Radon would not be used, at all.

Mixtures of different noble gasses can give off lots of other colors.
