So I bought Graw 2 yesterday and when i went online it froze. I repeated the steps and it froze again. Later that night I saw the 3 red lights of death. I searched for answers and did a towel trick to fix the problem. I can now play Graw 2 for about 30 min before it freezes again. Should i purchase an intercooler or something because I think my 360 is overheating.

P.S. my 360 is a launch console - 1yr and couple months old - warranty is expired and microsoft is charging $140 for a refurbished system which might freeze due to the fact it has been used and maybe has faulty parts.

At this point, you really have nothing to lose, so go ahead and try the intercooler. It's about 30 bucks, so it's not a big waste if it doesn't work. Even if it doesn't fix your problem, you can use it on your next 360.

Heating shouldn't be a problem because if it's overheating, the controller should tell you that it's overheating.

If your 360 is inside a cabinet, try putting it on the outside shelf to see if that fixes your problem.

Just out of curiosity, but is game freezing at a certain point all the time? If it it, it might be the game that's messed up. Try to play another game and see if you can play for longer than 30 minutes. If you can, then it might be GRAW2 that's messed up.

Try this

Pressing the eject button and the syncing button at the same time will reveal an error code using then number of red lights.

1 red light= 1
2 red lights = 2
3 red lights = 3
4 red lights = 0

i got the error code 30102 before my xbox 360 stopped starting up. It died and I had to send it back. I totalled 3 xboxs and today the 3rd is coming back.

FYI, Microsoft extended the warranty for another year because of all of the problems the launch systems are having. Call the XBOX support line to get them to send you a coffin... er... box to ship it back to them.
