There are a lot of civilian jobs with the military in Washington DC and at local bases around the country. You just have to check with them to see what jobs they are hiring for when you are ready.

Working in the Washington DC Area, I know many people who work in various military and government positions and never have actively served in the military.
The tricky part is that there is no real unified web site or service for all the branches, and applying for civilian jobs can be a little tricky- learning about the right forms and job classifications.
I prefer to be a contractor with the occasional government contract- but keep my feet firmly planted in the civilian sector.
