I will be getting out of the Coast Guard in May and I will have two years to complete my degree. I am a business major but I am also pre-med... I know that if I stuck with just business, a degree from Berkely is much more valuable, and I also believe it will enhance my chances of getting into a med school. UNLV would be a lot cheaper for me, but I am just trying to weigh the two options.

Ahh, I wouldn't say kiss it goodbye. Taranto's a Berkeley grad so he's obviously gonna have some extra love for his school. :)

Like most things, there are pros and cons. Yes, Berkeley will look much more impressive to med schools. However, there are freaking geniuses at that school making it VERY hard to get a decent grade there. I know for a fact that the prereq science classes are graded on a curve (lots of friends who went there on some kind of pre-med track). These kids were really hot stuff in high school. Got smoked (relatively) at Berkeley. I brought up the rear out of most of my high school friends. Went to a lesser undergrad (tho still a LOT higher than UNLV). I was smoking classes there with hardly much effort. 2 high school friends ended up in the same grad school as me, even tho they went to better undergrads.

I'll be blunt. You're not going to find many geniuses at UNLV. The competition isn't going to that hard. If you've got some talent, you can cut through that competition and really shine. Hard to argue with an A. If you can back it up with a good MCAT score and extra currics, some med school will consider you.

Who cares if you're the only one from UNLV to make it to med school. If you made it, you made it.

Of course, you have to remember that because you're not going to be going to school with the most ambitious kids, it'll be easy to get distracted and slack off, thus ruining your med school chances (or bus school). You're going to need incredible self discipline with no one around to motivate you to do your best. I really could have done better in undergrad, but didn't because I didn't have anyone to push me. I got pretty good grades, but I could have done even better had I had friends or even competition to tell me I couldn't rest on my laurels for even a little bit. That's the problem you face at UNLV, and you'd have even less room for error than me cuz UNLV isn't ranked that high.

First -- it is Berkeley, not Berkley.

Second -- there is a world of difference between Berkeley and UNLV -- one being the best public university in the country (and one of the best universities in the world) and the other being a place that would only be good if you are interested in Hotel Management.

Go to UNLV and you can pretty much kiss medical school goodbye. Berkeley, on the other hand, would be a great school to do pre-med.

Berkeley's Haas School of business is ranked #3 for undergraduates. The top companies in the world recruit there.

You should know that a business degree isn't ideal for Medical School -- but you can still take the courses that are required.

i imagine they (protesters) have the right to protest hostile to the conflict besides the undeniable fact that the city council has a clouded judgment and voted for a decision which could eliminate the USMC recruiting station. Their causes for eliminating the Marines or calling them "unwelcome visitors" is thoroughly flawed, and it got here from Code red. evaluate the following: myth: Marine recruiters lie- reality: some do. besides the undeniable fact that it truly is the responsibility for the "poolee" to hunt second opinion or do his or her study before growing to be a member of. do not only sit down there and nod your head even as the recruiter tells you something. Ask questions and practice your self before something. myth 2: Marines discriminates by technique of sexual orientation- reality: wager who got here up with "do not Ask do not tell" coverage. No it wasn't the Marine Corps or any branch contained in the protection stress. It became a level approved by technique of Pres.
