If you got fired from a retail job and then you apply for positions, what would you put in the box of the application where it says"Reason for leaving"? Or when the interviewer asks you if you have ever been discharged from a previous job? I worked at a Clothing store in Houston Texas for 4 years and whenever my friends and family came to buy things, I would give them higher discount rates than normal. When my manager found out, he fired me on the spot. What should I do for other positions? Should I hide the fact that I got fired or should I tell them the truth. Please HELP!!

They only really know what you tell them, and aren't likely to fire you later unless you're really doing a bad job and they want to get rid of you. Just don't mention the place or claim you quit.

Well lets look at it from both views. Would you hire someone that put on their application they gave big discounts to family and friends possibly causing the store to lose money on those items? Especially when there are 100 other people applying for the same job and they never did such a thing?

Now lets look at from the other view. You lie. Interviewer calls and finds out you were fired. Now you are a thief and a liar who has no honor at all...what is next? This is how a criminals life starts.

So now is the question. How you get your honor back? How do you get to the point where you didnt just waste the last 4 years of your life and you have to spend the rest of your life covering up that mark by becoming a liar. Only one way i can think of. Go back to the clothing store and speak to the manager that fired you. Ask for your job back and tell him you will pay him back whatever he feels is a reasonable amount (or if you know the actual amount) to be taken out of your check everypay day until the debt is satisfied. Tell him you want the job back so you dont turn into a liar and a theif and eventually end up in a life of crime.

If he doesnt hire you back, and you cant get a job in retail anymore because of that blemish, you will need to go into something where they dont really care about your last job, like becoming a car sales man, or real estate agent. (they hire everyone.) In fact one of those jobs is probably good for you as it will teach you about what happens when you give discounts....it cuts into your paycheck.

Most career level jobs now do background checks and will look into such things. You should be truthfull because if they find out they can fire you for lying.
Most previous employers will not disclose what you were fired for. If your prospective employer calls your former employer they will just tell them that you are no longer an employee and not eligible for re-hire. Best advice is to be honest. If not it might come back and bite you.

I would put "Will Discuss" on the application and when asked I would tell the truth also say that you've learned from experience and will never do that again (if that's true) and then state the reason why you'd be perfect for the job your applying for.

Tell the truth. It is worse to be caught lying on an application than to admit you were fired for making a mistake.

don't say that you were fired, don't lie either, say that you were exploring other options or something along those lines. your previous employer is not allowed to give up verymuch information, retail jobs come and go, just make it sound not bad, you won't have a problem.

Tell the truth! Then explain to them what you plan to do to change your mistake from your previous job!

Lie.

Working as a cashier at a department store doesn't warrant a check-up. No one will ever check...

Lie, say you quit for whatever reason....

Depends on wether or not you learned your lesson. Do you not realize its wrong to steal? Who the hell would honestly hire you if they knew you were a thief?
