I'd wait at least a week.

This is a good question. depends on your age and what type of job it is.
If your a teenager and you applied for a job such as a Burger joint and restaurant give them a few days to check it over. most places really don't have the time til late in the evening and then another person will make the calls to see if you are still interested.
Now If your a college student or an intern or just an adult proper etiquette for applying for a position is to send a resume and wait for a call. If you do not receive a call, send a letter letting them know your are still very much interested in being employed with their company and then go into detail how much of an asset you would be to their company. Either way I wish the best of luck!

Call in a few days to be sure it was received before the deadline, however, also apply for as many jobs that you qualify for as possible.

And when you get an interview, dress conservatively (no long earrings or long red fingernails, or pierced tongue) and don't talk about your inexperience. Say positive things like, you're looking forward to a new experience, will be prompt (on time), will work well with others, and know how to take directions/instructions from a supervisor.

I'd give them at least a week to get back to you. If you don't hear anything by then, give them a call.
