I think it's a tie between the first Batman (1989) and Batman Begins.

1. Batman Begins - Closest in tone to the spirit of the comics
2. Batman (1989) - Some parts a little too simple or over the top, but at least made an attempt to delve into the psyche of the character
3. Batman (1967) - Campy, yes, but intentionally so and was right for its time.
4. Batman Returns - Like the 1989 film, although I felt splitting time between two villains didn't do either of them justice.
5. Batman Forever - Two villains again, and really Two-Face and Riddler are so iconic in the comics that each really deserves his own movie, but Val Kilmer did make a fair Batman. Bat nipples?! What??
6. Batman & Robin - This one really couldn't decide whether it wanted to be taken seriously or campy. Clooney intentionally played Batman as gay. This was the franchise killer.

The first Batman (1989) was good entertainment. Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson were very good, there were good effects, decent support and the soundtrack from Prince is excellent, what more could you want? It will never win awards for performances but it was dark with humour. The other ones prior to Batman Begins were average. I haven't seen Batman Begins but a friend tells me it's a good film too.

The very first Batman and the second only because I think Michael Keaton made the best Batman. I thought Batman Begins was terrible, couldn't watch it.

Batman 1 & 2 cause Keaton was the best.

Kilmer was by far the worst. And they tried to introduce comedic relief to Batman...WTF? The Dark Knight is not a comedian.

I agree those two were the best but Batman Begins is better.

Only Batman Begins. The rest had such bad acting. Plus Christain Bale was sooo good looking. Not a bad actor. Liked him better in the Prestige though.

Batman (1989). Vicky Vale "What do you want?" Joker "A little song, a little dance, Batman's head on a lance, tell me what do you know about" and Jack Nicholson makes flying bat noises and motions. This movie has THE BEST lines ever. "Where does he get those magnificent toys"......good times great oldies.

I completely agree. Batman and Batman Begins were both written and directed very well.
