A mouseketeer is actually an impressive accomplishment. Think about it. How many people can say they were one? Look at some former Mouseketeers. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Christina Aguilar. I'd say they showed some talent in the show biz arena.

That's what Stanford's looking for in extra currics. Something outstanding. Not stuff anyone can do just by offering. Not simple participation stuff. They want to see you taking the initiative/leadership role and doing something that other people will step back and go, "Wow, I'm impressed a kid that young managed to do that." It doesn't have to be sports or school clubs, altho it can be.

There's no set number of AP classes. They really don't care what scores you got on those tests either. They're looking to see nearly straight A's in the toughest classes your school offered. If you came from a tougher neighborhood and your school didn't offer much, that's fine. You stand out a little more if you manage to take some community college courses in spite of living in a rough neighborhood where no one cares about school though. That's good even if you're in a rich area, but doesn't look quite as impressive.

There really aren't any lines you can draw or numbers to spit out. It's all about presenting an impressive application package for them to see.

Being a Berkeley grad, I enjoyed the previous answer -- but don't recommend you follow the advice unless you want to get beat up. If you don't know -- Stanford's color is Red, while Berkeley -- its rival -- has colors of Blue and Gold.

Go to Princeton Review's web site. It will answer most of your questions -- for Stanford and hundreds of other universities.
