I know I have kinda of asked this question ,but I am a substitute teacher thats 19 years old. For some reason I am good at actually teaching the students (high school english). I had taught students with adhd and their parents had given positive feedback.I was a student with those exact same problems. Is this a gift ? or is it something that I got put into a special position to understand? Iam confused.

Some people are naturally gifted as teachers because they are able to establish great rapport with their students. Luckily, for the rest of us, those skills are easily identified and can be learned and mastered over time. For example, I have great rapport with my students; they know I care about them. But I can be a push-over sometimes, and the students know how to manipulate this. I have to become better at classroom management.

The real question is not whether the students learned from you, but whether you enjoyed yourself. Really good teachers don't do it because they think they're really good. They do it because they have a driving need to make a difference. My skills with people certainly could have panned out in a more lucrative position. I worked in sales for years, and made much better money, but I've never been happier than when I was in the classroom.

In what state are they allowing you to be a substitute teacher? If you are only 19 years olds, I am assuming there is no possible way you have a Bachelor's Degree AND a teaching license. In the state of Iowa you can not be a subsititute teacher with out your degree. Maybe I am biased coming from a state with high standards for teacher education, a teaching degree from Iowa is very valuable and we have very demanding standards to meet to have your teaching license.

Yes, Teaching is a gift. I can teach people history, and joys of learning history, but will they listen to me.

I am a working stiff that loves to read everything and anything to keep me happy, but for some people - anything you tell them goes in one ear and out the other. No lodgement in the little grey cells of the brain
