He also is fussy during the day and has some congestion. He isn't running a temperature however. As a new mother, it is very frustrating. Any suggestions!

Check for teeth- my kids would have a burst of teeth about then and they would wake in the middle of the night all frustrated. Another thing might be the need to learn how to comfort themselves. There are many pros and cons to crying it out but I have done it with all 4 of my kids with zero regrets. They all can put themselves back to sleep after waking in the middle of the night. It might be somethign that you look into.

If you do see teeth you can ask your pediatrician for the proper dosage of tylenol- this is very soothing to a babe with a mouth of soreness.

Everyone has a good answer. Teething, congestion, etc. My baby went through this too! He had been sleeping so well but then started waking up every two hours. He obviously wasn't teething because he still doesn't have a tooth. He wasn't congested. My doctor told me that babies go through growth spurts. And during these growth spurts they will wake up more frequently at night to nurse. So maybe that is what is going on with your baby. Try feeding him some cereal before putting him to sleep.

Have you started any solids yet? Maybe your baby is hungry. If you baby is under the weather this may have something to do with it too. I know they say wait till 6 months, but once your babies cold is gone I might try a little rice cereal before bed, it might help. Good luck and try and get some rest, I feel for you the other night I was up with my toddler once and my 4 month old 3 times...I hate thouse nights! Hang in there!

Could be teething. Babies tend to be fussy and have a runny nose. I know a lot of people who have 4 month olds with teeth already. My daughter is 6 months now and has been teething for at least month, hopefully a tooth comes out one of these days!

It may be that hes still getting used to solid foods. At 5 months he should be eating 2-3 meals a day. It may take him a while to adjust. Teeth is another issue. My son is 4 months and he gets like that sometimes too. Sometimes hes a angel and some days its non stop. I think baby have there moods like we do! Sucks for us, but hey what can ya do? GOOD LUCK!

my son is 8 and a half months. hes lately doing the same thing. he used to sleep 10 hrs and now is waking up a couple of times at night. its cause hes teething. i no how frustrating it is. and i tried to let him sleep it off but that doesnt work. i jus get up, change him and give him milk, and then lay him down. try teething pellets, when they are about to grow teeth, it hurts them. i dont speak to him let him know its sleepy time. jus give it time. a pacifier might help too. i put him on the bouncer during the day, and i let him play in the day time to wear him off. anything to keep him distracted in the daytime so he stays up. also try solids. sometimes its hunger that wakes him during the night. good luck, and you are definitely not alone.

He is teething, give him a frozen teething ring or wet a washcloth and put it in the freezer they love to chew on it and it makes their little gums feel better. If it is not his teeth waking him up, i'm sure it is though, maybe he is having a growth spurt and is hungry at night.

He could be teething!! My 18 month old had 2 teeth by 6 months old! Or he might have an ear infection!! Even though he has no fever he could still have one! It will hurt more when he lays down. Your best bet would be to have him checked out, just to be safe!!

Try keeping him awake during the day to get him to be sleepy at night. Sounds like his time clock needs some help.
