I am not gay. I am also not a gay-basher.
But it seems to me that many "tolerant, nondiscriminatory" liberals as well as many "right-wing, Bible-thumping homophobes" can't resist the urge to gay-bash their political opponents.
So just be honest, with yourself and the board.
Who wants to go on record as saying gays are shameful, and who says that they are not?
Better yet, who here wants to confess denigrating a political opponent by alleging homosexuality, and who has not?
I assume everyone who has is a "gay rights" opponent.
But I could be wrong.
So why do so many on all sides of the political spectrum jump to use homosexuality as an insult?

I think anyone who uses homosexuality as a slam to get a point across has a problem with it. Why else jump to that particular insult? I would assume anyone who has done so is a "gay rights" opponent too. Or perhaps someone who just doesn't care at all, and is using the current slang, as in "you're so gay," to express an insult without really thinking about what it implies. Either way, I don't even bother with those types of questions. I assume it's someone either very young who's only here to flame, or an all out bigot I don't want to have any contact with anyway. The exception for me are those who think Hillary Clinton is a closet lesbian. Those people just crack me up, I can't help but answer them.

For most Republicans, coming out against homosexuals is a "logical" thing to do, seeing as their constituency consists mainly of religious homophobes. They would lose votes if they condoned a gay lifestyle. Democrats are bashing the Republican hypocrites, the ones that shout out against homosexuals the loudest and are caught sleeping with underage boys. And the problem there is there hypocrisy and the pedophilia, not the fact that they are gay. Of course that is an extreme example, but it is one that is popping up more and more these days in the political circle. There is nothing to be ashamed of as a gay politician. It takes guts to come out when there are so many ignorant people in the world. Skin color, gender, and sexual preference should be seen as irrelevant when it comes to an election. But they tend to be the most important traits in voters' minds on election day. That is a very disappointing thing indeed.

To answer that question honestly would bring religion into it. Therefore I will only say that their lifestyle is up to them. But don't try to make me believe it is right.
I could never see two homosexual males or females in the White House as Mr or Ms President and 1st...???? I just see it all as immoral and not in the best interest of this country.

Absolutely not!
Those who oppose will usually look for some way to make others dislike their opponent. This is most true when the one has less to offer than the one at whom they are trying to sling mud.
Homosexuality is not an insult.
Hating because of another person's difference is reason enough not to elect.

No-- Barney Frank (D) and Jon Kyle (R) are both gay and in congress.
I think the issue comes up when R's come out (no pun intended) against gays but then end up being gay themselves. Although frankly, I think the biggest issue most R's have with gays is around either (unsavory) lifestyle or gay marriage.

The Nazis made homosexuals wear pink triangles. They were really homophobes. That may be coming for the US with the Bible thumpers demanding things their way and only their way. Wake up the world has many colors not just black and white. Liberals see these colors and Cons only see black and white.
I am not homosexual but what they do between consenting adults is their business. As long as they keep it to themselves and don't try to involve me why should I care?

They use it because being a homosexual effects your electability particularly in more conservative areas. Politicians will say whatever they think is most likely to get them votes from the audience they are addressing.

Good question. Personally, I don't care what someone does in their bedroom with another consenting adult. I agree - the gay bashing certainly isn't limited to the right.
I think it's sad, really....they're just people, for goodness sakes!

ALL GAYS ARE SHAMEFUL. POLITICIAN OR NOT. I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR A GAY POLITICIAN. THE MERE FACT THAT THEY ARE GAY SHOW A WEAKNESS IN CHARACTER.
HOMOSEXUALS ARE NO RACE OR NATIONALITY. WHY SHOULD THEY BE GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT?
A DEGENERATE LIFESTYLE IS NOT TO BE REWARDED.
WHY SHOULD THEY BE ACCEPTED BY THE NORMAL OR HETEROSEXUAL PEOPLE IN SOCIETY.
WHY ARE WE BEING FORCE FED ALL THIS HOMO STUFF? WHY CAN'T THEY JUST GO ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS WITH OUT INTERFERING IN THE EVERYDAY LIFE OF NORMAL PEOPLE?
THEY ARE NOT A RACE OR NATIONALITY THEY ARE DEGENERATES. WHY DO WE HAVE TO PLACATE DEGENERATES. WHO WILL WANT SPECIAL PRIVILEGES NEXT? PERVERTS, INCEST PEOPLE, ANIMAL LOVERS. WHEN WILL IT STOP.
POLITICAL CORRECTNESS EQUALS HYPOCRISY.
