its normal for this to happen. all peoples hands are not the same so they could be off. they told me in my pregnancy class that one person may say your 5 cm dialated and another 4 this doesnt mean either of them are necessarily or that you undialated it just they have different ideas and size measurements for dialation. dont worry. you'll be fine and i doubt they would keep nething from you so relax.

As far as the dilation, it varies from person to person. One may say that a tiny dilation is 1cm, some say none and some say that it's a fingertip dilated.

As for the weight, my dr said that babies gain about 1/2 lb per week towards the end, so if you're 36 wks now that would make an estimate of 8 1/2 lbs at birth which isn't that unusual. Plus the weight estimates aren't usually very accurate, either by ultrasound or the drs best guess. My daughter was born at 38 wks and they estimated she was close to 7 lbs, but was only 4 1/2 lbs.

Don't worry about what anyone says except the Doctor, he is the one that is trained in the field. Usually the mucus plug has some blood in it.. so you may have only lost part of it. And when was your last menstrual period.. just b/c the baby is 6.5 lbs doesn't mean you are further along. I am only 33wks and my son weighs 5.5 lbs already. If I were to make it to full term he could weigh over 10 lbs. So don't rush things along.. the baby's lungs still need to develop some more. Good luck.

Same exact thing happen to me actually yesterday... Last tuesday i went to L & D for false labor. The nurse & doctor there both checked me and said i was 1 cm dialated... I got excited.. i had a doctors appointment yesterday and my original doctor told me i wasn't dialted yet and cervix was high. ( im 36 weeks ) . I said to her that they said i was 1 cm dialated. And she said its always possible to be able to fit a pinky into your cervix but she would consider it closed. I am still going for the 1 cm dialated cause i was excited! haha..

But wait until your next appointment..
Also.. They told me my baby was really big ever since i was 16 weeks.. Its not real assuring to tell me this big baby is coming out of me!! They told my mom i was going to be a very big baby when i was in her.. Come to find out i was only 6'1. So i have come to the conclusion.. Doctors arent always right. They think they are soo smart sometimes.. but just make asses out of themselves :-)
My LMP was in june 6th.. so i think my due date should be around march 13th.. btu the sonigram says different.. I have always measured 2 cm's bigger than what i was suppose to.. Weird i think.. but whatever!

I guess we just have to play it by ear.. and see what happens and how we progress.. My email is jessicamaureendennis@yahoo.com you can email me at anytime!!! My due date is april 2nd.. im having a boy..

I believe the reason is because at 1cm you are actually considered closed. I had to be checked and the doctor said I was 1 cm and the nurse went on to say that, that meant I was closed and that was a good thing at my then 32 weeks.

Different people will give you different answers. Some people have no qualms with forcing a finger to fit, while others don't like to do that. I would bet that is the case. You could have 5 people examine you and you'd probably get a couple different answers.

You could have 10 people check you and get several different answers on how dialated you are. It just really depends on who is doing the checking. I would stick with what your doctor says.

When I was pregnant with my second daughter my doctor went on vacation when I was 38 weeks. Her nurse was the one to see me when she was gone and she did not check patients for this reason.
