International Women’s Day inspires women to connect together to celebrate and reflect. Rallies are going to be held in many cities including Mogadishu, Harare, Jerusalem and Toronto.

On Sunday, 33 feminists were arrested in Iran for peaceful protests about women’s rights.

Does a global sisterhood exist?

I hope International Women's Day inspires men to realize how unique, gifted and powerful women today are. I sincerely think that there is a connection that flows between women of this world. Unfortunately, there are individuals, as well as countries, who are trying to stifle this. I think, partly, because of fear over the power they will loose to us or over us. Another part, culture and/or religion, which has been male dominant and has portrayed the role of women as being subservient to the male. Finally, sexually, where women are treated as an object owned by a man. He can treat that women with contempt or physically abuse and alter her in anyway just to keep her subservient. Historically, women have often been treated as chattel along with the goats and donkeys. Unfortunately, sometimes it is only us "women" who realize the powerful part we have had throughout history.
I think women have fought long and hard and have won many of these battles. Unfortunately, this is not so everywhere.
But women continue to fight...to achieve...to be free. It is a spirit that unites all women. It is something that we recognize in ourselves as well as others. International Women's Day is a way for woman to do just that...to connect, celebrate and continue to recognize the worth of all of us.
I'm glad you asked this question today. I surprised myself with the depth of my feelings on this subject. You have helped spread the word.

There is no "Sisterhood" just politics. A true Sisterhood would have spoken out LOUDLY a long time ago against the abuses that Woman endure. Pornography in the West and brutal domination in the Islamic world. It will not change until "Women" adopt ""A Universal, Global, Women's Bill Of Rights" and insist on it at every level, Political, Economic and Religious. A Female "Leader", with moral commitment and Character to establish this, will be the true "Second coming". Nominations anyone?

My compliments.

I think it does in a lot of countries across the world but some countries are still very much a man only place when it comes to freedom of speech whether it be a peaceful protest of a spoken one its looked upon as very Victorian for women.
