Just write it out. A narrative is a written response that goes beyond "yes" and "no." Normally you will spell out your reasoning, or how you came up with the answer.

There are four text types typically taught in school; narrative is just one.

The narrative response expects the writer to walk the reader through the reasoning behind an activity or an event.

Here is a brief list of they types of things you might have read that are considered narrative; they can be either true or fiction--the key is a narrator.
Novels
Short Stories
Poetry
Biographies
Letters (not in a business-memo sense)
