Honestly, if you are talking about white Americans, I don't think it's any different than any other group's knowledge about Nigeria. Many Americans still say the Africa is a country (white, black, etc.), so there is definitely very little known about Nigeria. The Nigerian internet scams are attracting attention to the nation, but it's not GOOD.

Sadly, many people do not know much about African nations because schools in America focus too much on European history and ignore Africa and Asia. We are the ones missing out, because Nigeria is actually an interesting nation! I had to represent Nigeria in a nation simulation, so I know about it.

Yes, I knew about Africa itself but never knew there were so many countries. A matter of fact I never heard of Nigeria until I met someone online. Ever since that time I learned more about Africa and got more interested to visit there someday.

Probably yes. There are proportionally as many black folks who also know nothing about Nigeria. I can imagine 98% of black Americans don't know much about the place.

I lived there for 3 1/2 years, so I got to know it up close. Its not as bad as most people think.

I think everyone knows what is going on. It is not a matter of being White and not knowing, it is a matter of who pays attention to world events.

If you are so concerned that White people don't know what is going on, I assume you are Black. What are you doing to help the people there and how much of what is going on do you know about?
