This question is for the straights who believe that it is possible to choose not to be gay. I know that you believe that it is possible for people to change either through the strength of their own will, the power of prayer, daily reading of scriptures or some combination there of. So what would I have to do to make you change your sexuality? Some of you might sight a lack of available female or male companionship, due to incarcaration, but would that alone be enough? Mind you I don't want you to change I am fine with you being who you want to be but I want to understand myself better by understanding you better. If you don't feel comfortable sighting what it would take can you at least tell me if it is possible for you to change. Thanks for your response.

Hmmm...let's see I'm a hetero--straight out of Va. (I live in Bmore now) and I absolutely believe it is your right to be who you want to be. As long as it is two consenting adults whose business is it to begin with? I grew up a quaker and believe EVERYONE is equal!! It seems as though a lot of these religous types (or maybe it is a small number that just make a lot of noise) lose sight of the sin they are committing when they cast judgement on others.

I don't think that there is anything that could make me change my sexual orientation.

It is my personal belief that among both straights and gays, there are those that are the way they are because it is a natural tendency for them to be that way. I also believe that there are many on both sides that are the way they are because of decision. I once had a gay couple as neighbors who I knew quite well until one died and the other moved. Both had been married and had families before. I am quite convinced that both of them had been so burned by their wives that they just gave up on women. But I don't think that is the case for all gays.

But, having said all this, there is more to the story. I believe that we were created in the image of God, male and female. I believe that God has a distinct purpose for creating gender. The plan was the male and female would compliment each other and neither was intended to be exclusive of the other. In fact, that is evidenced by the fact that neither can procreate without the other. Study after study shows that, all things being equal, a child does much better being raised in a home with a mother and a father. Not two mothers, not two fathers, not single parents. Even when the mother and father don't always get along, if they can make it work if for no other reason than for the children, the children are much better off in the long run.

No, I don't think it is easy to change ones sexual orientation just out of sheer will. But I do think that when a person comes to truly know God and understand the purpose of creation, that sexual orientation becomes a non-issue. People will naturally mold their lives to be more in accord with the will of God as they try to live as God desires them to live.

In this view, sexual orientation becomes no different than a host of other sins that people bring into their lives. Those who truly desire to do the will of God will find that God brings them along one step at a time. Those who do not wish to do the will of God tend to argue that they have the right to do anything they want.

People have tried to make sex free for so long now, that many believe it to be. God has placed a heavy price on sex. It is an act that can both bind and tear assunder at the same time. It can build up or it can destroy. Feelings and emotions are inseparably connected to sex. Sex can both destroy a persons self esteem or build it up. It can strengthen love, or it can destroy it. It binds husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, or it can tear them apart.

In my opinion, and I base that opinion on my belief in God, that a straight sexual orientation is a paramount prerequisite to fulfilling the plan of God. Even being placed in a prison with only other men for several years would not change my sexual orientation.

Hehe, I'm a lesbian and I've thought of that myself. It's ironic that some straight people (not all--some of you are really cool!) insist that gays and lesbians should be able to change their sexuality at the drop of a hat, when those same straights can't/won't even come close to imagining being gay. Just goes to prove how biologically ingrained sexual preferences are.

I can change being straight just as quick as you can change your orientation. But I do find Transsexuals less threatening to my sexuality. Does that help?

I cannot change being a lesbian. There's no way to change sexuality, and I wouldn't even if I could because I'm happy being a lesbian. I love myself.
