You have to have a "T" shaped like chuck key that is suppose to be with the drill, you will see on the drill head where the phillips would fit there is gears all around the drill head there will be a hole if you look around it,fit the key in there(the key has the gears to around it too) and mesh the gears and turn, that my dear is how you open up a drill....
Good luck

Some drills are keyless chucks and you have to turn the part below where the drill bit goes. Older drills use a tool called a chuck key. There are several small holes in the chuck and a gear toothed collar below that.

Hope that helps some.

If this is an electric drill, unscrew the piece holding in the flathead (it should have a directional arrow on there letting you know which way to turn it). Once it's loose enough, you can pull out the flathead (or whatever piece is in there) and insert the phillips. After that, just crew it back tight.

put the drill in reverse and u have to either use a a drill chuck or have a good grip and grab the head thats holding the bit in place , and pull the trigger to make the drill go in reverse it should loosen right up
