Coincidences _are_ coincidences and nothing more.
However, there are some events that some people would label as coincidence, but that I would label otherwise. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to prove anything one way or the other.
For example, I feel that any telepathy experiment involving a single person and a machine is automatically doomed because I feel that telepathy requires two or more sentient beings. Unfortunately, once you introduce the second person, maintaining proper control becomes difficult and regardless of your results skeptics will rightfully point out the weakness in the experiment.

There are coincidences and then there is synchronicity.
Coincidences are random and may or may not mean anything to anybody
Synchroncities are meaningful and timely and usually mean something of great importance to the person experiencing them.
Carl Jung wrote quite alot about this subject.
