x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 36
3x + 6 = 36
3x + 6 - 6 = 36 - 6
3x = 30
3x / 3 = 30 / 3
x = 30 / 3
x = 10

Here's a way to do it for any sum.
If x is the smallest of the three even integers, then the next even integer is 2 more, x + 2, and the next one is 2 more than that, x + 4.
So, x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 36. 3x + 6 = 36. Solve for x by subtracting 6 from both sides. 3x = 30. So x = 10.
And then, you have that the numbers are 10,12,and 14.
Also, if the numbers are three consecutive even integers, the sum has to be a multiple of 3.

Three consecutive even integers can be expressed as x. x+2, and x+4. Therefore:
x + (x+2) + (x+4) = 36
Combine like terms, and solve for x

36/3 = 12, so the middle number is 12. 12-2 = 10... 12+2 =14... so the numbers are 10,12,14.
