You are safe from prying eyes as far as your personal identity.

The closest anyone could come would be to learn the name and state of the company that connects you to the net. Your internet service provider. (ISP)
The only way to learn who YOU are personally is for law enforcement personnel to bring a court order to the office of your ISP and insist they needed to know who YOU are.

So, my friend, you are safe from all but the law, and that is the way it should be.....

if you want to find out what people can find out about you ip address have a look at this site http://cqcounter.com/whois/ just type in the ip address and click whois they can find out who you service provider is and the country you're in but they can't find out you're name without asking you ISP and who used that ip on that date and time and that's something the ISP's won't do unless it's the law who ask

nope, not for your home ISP ip address at least, unless you have your own "deicated" one but even then u'd hv to configure it

you will be able to for domain names tho

HOWEVER, your ISP can track you down....if ppl report an ip address

you can use http://www.arin.net to find out where the ip is, however it only lets you go to the service provider.

At best they will be able to find out who your ISP is, and if they know what they are doing what state you are in.
