I got a belly button ring when I was in college. I've had it at least 7 years. I was going to just keep it in but now I wonder if I should take it out. Honestly, I don't even think about it but every time my mom sees my belly she asks "when are you going to take that thing out." I think I keep it in just because she says something.

Does anyone have any experience with this? If I take it out now at 26 weeks will it close up or am I too streched out? If I leave it in will it just stretch and be gross?

I took mine out at 16 weeks because I didn't like the pulling feeling it created. Also, at 36 weeks I now have an outie that I have been sporting since around 30 weeks so I am glad I have taken it out. I also thought I looked silly with a belly ring poking through my shirt and a little pot belly. Other than that it hasn't closed it is a little stretched and discolored, but I am sure it will go back to normal.
Btw you can get an extender to wear during pregnancy made just for belly rings.

This is the ABSOLUTE best answer I can give anyone about pregnancy! I took bacitracin and then took a plastic loop tag thing that holds shoes together at a shoe store or ( I just asked at a store if I could have one before it had been used) I washed it in antibacterial soap and then threaded the needle part through the ring hole. I then clicked it shut and it gave me room to grow without it stretching or hurting in maternity pants. I had so many compliments on the idea from my Dr office and they have since suggested it to others. The nice thing about the plastic loop is that it has no surface for bacteria to collect on so it wont get infected and it is thin enough to easily thread. Then when I was done I just cut it and put the ring back in.

I had mine for 11 years and took it out when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I might get in repirced later if I decide too, but I doubt it. It has left quite a little mark, and where it used to be on the inside is now like an inch above my navel.

I had to take my metal one out but I found a website of a woman who created "Pregnancy Piercings". They are long plastic thin pipe with two small balls attached. The length is long and will not stretch you out. Plus with the length you can keep them in up until the end and they are very comfortable. I got a mark by my belly button. I am not sure if it is from the pregnancy piercing or my orginal metal piercing. Check them out. They are kinda expensive but they seem to be popular

They are really just thin PVC type stuff, so for the price kind of high but it will help you keep your piercing in!

I got mine done when I was 16, I have had 2 full term pregnancies and 17 weeks with my third. I had to take mine out while in labor with my first daughter and never with my second. If you take it out now it might grow up, but mine didn't stretch out and look all gross, its still really cute, but as you get bigger, it might turn a little, but it should be fine. good luck and congrats on your baby!!!

I had mine until I was about 24 weeks, I had an ultrasound at that time and the tech asked me to take it out so she could get a look to see if we were having a boy or a girl, apparently it was casting a shadow. I took it out and never put it back it :(

I got my belly button pierced in college....I graduated last May and am now 28.5 weeks pregnant. I went ahead and took out my belly ring at around month 3...I didn't want my belly button hole to get all stretched (however, you can buy belly button rings to wear during pregnancy). I don't know...I just felt that since I'm out of college, I'm having a baby...it was just time for me to let go of the pierced belly button/college kid thing and move on....

My sister's is pierced and she took it out for both of her pregnancies and then put them back in after (I guess she got it re-pierced???)

I don't have one so I have no personal direct experience, although I'm surprised your OB or midwife hasn't said anything. I have a close friend who's an OB and another close friend who's a midwife and, oh, the stories they tell about women who have left in their navel rings. If you want an anecdote that's simultaneously funny and gross, that's a great topic.
