No, but I might consider paying it to help poverty in this country. Why does the US give so much to everyone else, when this country has it's own issues to contend with.

The answer is, you start at home and then you take care of the world.

That is almost already the case and the reason is realism.

Without paying for poorer countries, their societes would simply go bankrupt and we would have a much higher flow of immigrants...

Also a penny for them is a penny for us since developpment help also helps our companies who are exporting to realize the projects there since they are the one who have the expertise. In turn, it brings us jobs and we have a certain return on investment.

It is the reason why development bank exist and they are pretty successful at alleviating poverty. And once the movement is launched, it is often self-sufficient and net receivers become net contributors, just like Korea, Ireland or Eastern Europe... and soon China.

No way. Are you kidding? I already pay a lot of taxes, and the US gives a lot toward poverty relief. Problem is, it ends up in the hands of corrupt dictators who buy weapons to kill the good guys! Throwing more tax money at this problem isn't the answer.

No. I am not sure if it is true, but I believe that most of the money ends in the pockets of corrupt government officials.

I would happilly support non governamental social programs here and abroad and I would gladly pay more taxes to establish universal health care in the US. It would probably be cheaper and more efficient than paying for private health insurance and everyone would benefit from it.

No. Not if it couldn't assured that the people would be getting it all. Or at least 75%. Nigeria former leader ran away with the countries money and nothing happened to him. And during the tsunami, supplies sat while people starved. I give independently to several groups in and around my community. I even give to international organizations. I feel better that way. i can;'t trust the government with money. Look how they use our taxes.

I pay enough taxes. I certainly won't happily pay more for any reason so long as the government mismanages what they've already been given. Private charity is where the money needs to come from for this and other social causes.

Ummmmmm, that would be a definite NO. We already send out billions in relief. Why make it another tax burden. Certainly low income Americans cannot afford that.

No.
We must help our fellow man, no matter what country they live in. However, that is a choice each of us must make. Forcing anyone to participate in a charity is wrong and does not embody the principle of freedom.

Ignoring the plight of our fellow man is wrong. Forcing someone to help at gun point is wrong (try not paying your taxes and tell me you are not at gun point). Two wrongs do not make a right.

no, because it wouldn't solve the problem. We've been pouring money into developing nations for the last 50 years. Do you think it's worked? Free money doesn't work--we need new ideas.
