And that it is a constitutional republic.

I find it interesting that some "Top Contributors" feel the need to bash my question.

"because it is a democratic republic...trying to remove democracy from america is NOT going to work, so nice try. Move somwhere else if you don't like it here. "

Response - You sound like a fool.

"Is that an epiphany you want to share? Everyone over the age of 12 knows that fact. Welcome to reality. "

Response - Does everyone over 12 know that? I bet that 90% of the American public is unaware of the system we actually have, and of the reasons behind the system.

It's a fine line. Most people understand democracy and what it means. If you said "Constitutional Republic" to 90% of Americans they would look at you with a blank expression and possibly start drooling.

update:
A pure Democracy is majority rule. AKA Tyranny by majority, where the people vote on everything and the majoirty get thier way. Minority rights are not protected in a pure democracy.
Thankfully, we don't have that system.

We even say it in our pledge of allegiance. " And to the republic for which it stands..."

Also.. after the constitutional convention when Ben Franklin left independace hall he was asked by a woman what sort of government we would have. He replied:
"A republic madam, if you can keep it"

Do you recognize what democracy is? Democracy is mob rule. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. This authorities and the media pushes that united statesa. is a democracy even as it will be a Constitutional Democratic Republic by technique of Constitutional mandate. it is a deception on the american human beings and area of the reason why this authorities is blatantly corrupt. human beings, please get an training an examine and understand the structure. on the Constitutional convention of 1787, a Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia requested Benjamin Franklin, "properly, well being care service, what have we were given, a republic or a monarchy?" without hesitation in any way, Franklin replied, "A republic, in case you are able to save it." historic previous has shown we gained't save it because of the inability of expertise of people.

We are a republic. If we were a true Democracy, Al Gore would have been elected back in 2000, and a vote of no confidence would be in effect for all elected officials.

But that needs to be taught in schools. We are not a democracy, but a Republic. Every government/social studies text book I had in grade school and high school all said that we are a democracy, and that is false. It needs to be changed in textbooks and taught the correct way.

Its a technicality. The point is that the people have a say in what the government does. If America were a true democracy we'd be following every fad out there. We'd making la macarina the national dance one minute and appointing Brittney Spears as UN rep. the next. Have you talked to some Americans? The average person is not always all that bright. Fortunately they usually know how to elect someone who is.

As others have stated, our government is a Democratic Republic, a form of Democracy. So, I don't think people are incorrect saying we live in a Democratic society, because we do, it's just that we have certain checks and balances to ensure equality amongst the minority as well as the majority.

Because we have been told all our lives that it is a democracy. Since no one cares enough in school to ask about other forms of government, or even about the idea of democracy (all we are told is that we are the best because of it, and no one else whether they have democracy or not measures up to us); we just assume what we are told is correct and that we are a democracy and awesome for it.

But I disagree with you, we are not a constitutional republic. We are a Democrazy. This place has lost its mind. I blame the schools.
