Liberals, what is your definition of conservatism?

Someone asked this five months ago and it only got five responses.

I should clarify, I know what conservatism is. I'm looking for your definition.

Are you starting to see why conservatives are hypocrits? And gay? Perhaps if they start conserving something, people will start to think they have some kind of integrity. Did I mention they were gay? My friend Kevin says, "They are pretty gay."

I would define old or traditional conservatism as wanting: Small Govt., Strong national defense, Free trade, low taxes, anti-welfare, pro business, pull yourself up by you own boot straps, pragmatists, who would never have gotten involved in nation building. This would be know as Barry Goldwater conservatism.

Conservatives in the 21st century are: Big Govt., Big Govt. spenders, anti-free trade protectionists, theocrats, who use war as an excuse to take US freedoms away from the American people & that using the US military is bettter than using diplomacy to solving it's foreign policy "issues". This would be know as Bush consevativism.

Conservative used to mean frugal with the budget and spending, level headed and rather stiff. Now it means shredding the constitution, lying about going to war, lying to the American people about WMD's, giving tax dollars as subsidies to the already profiting oil industries and military industrial complex industries. It means pandering to the radical fascist religious right. It also means overspending and creating huge deficits and huge debt. It now means shredding habeas corpus of the constitution, firing appointed and elected judges at whim and it now means supporting pedaphiles in office. It also means corruption, taking military industrial complex industry kickbacks while in office. It mean Jack Abramoff scandals and tom Delay corruption. It now means access only to and for those who have billions to spend on you. It means porous borders, driving the wages of labor in this country down in favor of illegal alians, and cutting funding for our kids education while flooding our education districts with millions of illegals kids. It means to give to the rich, take away from the middle class and deny the poor any access at all.
Do you need more of a definition than that? Because I could go on.

true conservatives believe in small government, personal responsibility and maximum freedom. these "conservatives" today have been too busy pandering to the religious right to promote maximum freedom and too greedy for power to limit government. and personal responsibility only applies to poor black people apparently.
