I am in university and am going to live with 2 people in a house next year . For approx 4 weeks now, we have been searching for a house, with one girl seeing if we could get a 4th member for a bigger house and myself calling all accommodation agencies in the area and searching for houses weekly. I was the one who left aside my studies contacting all these places.. Their requirements was to get any house by the end of this month, whereas mine was to get any nice house.. They were ready to sign contracts for several houses which I didnt like , and there it was yesterday the perfect house was found(again i was the 1 who contacted the agency).. This house has 2 upstairs really large bedrooms and one downstairs small medium room.. I think that as I found the house it would be extremely unfair to get the smaller room, the girl needs to stay up for security reasons. It is left with the other guy. And from wat i see both of them are wanting me to stay down. They asked me for a reason to stay u

They asked me for a reason to stay up yesterday and i didnt provide one, whereas the other guy said his widescreen tv was the reason he needs to be in the bigger room. I was even name called as stubborn when i refused to back down.. Currently i think it is very unfair to me who worked this hard and finally found this house( maybe by luck) stay downstairs whereas my other friend who absolutely did nothing other than viewing the houses ofcourse, gets to keep the bigger room.. Am i wrong ? What do you think? How can i approach this situation? Thanks

You should have immediately said that since you found the house you would take the room. If they are your friends and you back out they will take it personally

Come up with a proposal (plan) where you both may be happy from , if this fails just cut the deck and whoever gets the biggest room gets it

WOW I would back out. If your having problems this early on then it sounds lik everyone needs to rethink this thing. Just imagine the cable bill comes in and noone fesses up to the pay per view.. who gets stuck with it, the person who signed up for it. I have seen this stuff get really messy before my cousin got screwed with a months rent and a huge electric bill. The roomies all got in a fight and they all moved out before the lease was up. She got stuck bad she got evicted and her parents had to bail her out and pay the bills for her. She had to sell her car and ride a bicycle to work. I would get one roomate and a 2 bedroom apt. Not 3 or 4 and agree on who gets what in there name split it up. Good Luck

just tell em i found this house and we are sharing it and i think the t'v belong's in da living room or if ya want ya could hire a carpenter that know's how to renovate and make the smaller room bigger or whatever. or just take the big room as soon as ya get there and say i got here 1st haa haa ;)

I think they are treating you like you don't even matter I think that you need to stop living with them everything that they've been doing to you would've proved to you that they don't care about you it's like they're just making you do all the work and then they can't do nothing for them selves. I would've left a long time ago

Stick to your guns! You did the work - so reap the rewards. However - you may lose your roommates. It sounds as if they will continue to use you for their purposes. Maybe you should place an ad & get different roommies! Good luck!
