Especially when the right claims to be so religious and all. I'm just wondering what you find so offensive about peace, truth, love, equality and understanding, that's all.

As a Christian conservative, I have often wondered the same things. I was taught to be accepting of others and to love all. I see TV preachers screaming hate of gays and liberals, and I just don't understand it. I feel gays should be able to marry, just the same as African-Americans being free, and women voting.
Discrimination is wrong, regardless of your personal sexual preference.
I think it has a lot to do with ignorance.
Many people just have not had the experience of living and loving people that are different. The republicans are only hurting themselves by opposing gay rights, it forces people who may have conservative views to have to vote as liberals in order try to get the same basic rights that others in this country already have.
It also appears to be age related, people from different generations were raised with a completely different moral mindset. As this country continues to change, the political mindset will change with it. I rarely run into rampant racism, but 20 or 30 years ago, throwing around the N word was very acceptable. My Grandpa frequently made "off-color" jokes as a matter of course, it was how he was raised. Even the Bible did not have a prohibition against slavery, just a set of rules stating how slaves should be treated.
Also, realize it is not a one way street, I have met many liberals who would not associate with me once they discovered I was a conservative republican. I have even been fired from a job for stating I was a republican when my supervisor asked me a political question, and I answered honestly, even though I knew everyone else at the business was very liberal.
It is human nature to protect and to defend your beliefs, even if those beliefs are wrong. People need to learn to be objective, to think from both sides ot the issue, to examine the science of facts stated. Until all people learn to accept and love one another, to use force only when necassary to protect themselves and other innocents, there will be hatred and resentment in this world. The human race has a long way to go.

Peace does not equal pacifism
Truth is not subjective based on whatever you feel like believing at the time
Love is not about forcing others to help others in the manner YOU feel is right for everyone
Like and Equal are not the same
Understanding isnt saying that everyone is right and noone should ever take a stand

Conservatives want all those things. They just want to achieve them in a different way then Liberals. The fact that you think ONLY liberals espouse these qualities are exactly my problem with liberals.

First of all, I'm a Conservative and I'm not religious. Second of all, we don't hate Liberals personally. We just hate their ideas. The only reason we hate their ideas is because they are not reasonable with the way things really are. How can they be about peace, truth, love, equality, and understanding if they spend all their time hating someone else's views and think they are above Conservatives because they refuse to try and understand where their views are coming from? It would be different if their ideas were more realistic, but they aren't. It's sad to say, but reality can be a scary thing and Conservatives try to base things off of common sense rather than trying to be so politically correct.

I am a conservative. I don't hate liberals or hippies. I favor peace, truth, love, equal opportunity for all, and I understand liberals and hippies.
Liberals are delusional. Hippies are too busy immersing themsleves in mud to care about anything beyond where to get the next joint.

We don't "hate" liberals and hippies - we think they're misguided. And we KNOW they aren't all about peace, truth, love, equality or understanding, despite their mouthings of shibboleths to the contrary.

Peace is achieved through strength, as has been shown throughout human history. Human nature hasn't changed.

Truth is truth. Not some unsupported beliefs in the alleged criminality or corruption of only one party. A baby is a baby, not a zygote, not a fetus.

etc...

I don't hate either.

I disagree with them a bunch, but disagreement is not a bad thing. What is a bad thing is squashing others opinions and not having an open mind to change or listen to an opposing argument. Both liberals and conservatives are guilty of this equally.

Not all of the right claims to be religious first of all. Religion and being conservative dont go hand in hand. The ones that are so hate filled and tolerant and still proclaim to be Christians are either lying or have no idea what Christs teachings actually are.

As one, I don't hate the person, just the ideas. The biggest one is that intentions are better than results. If there was an example of liberal ideas actually bringing peace, love, equality and understanding to fruition I must have missed it.

I guess Conservatives hate Liberals for the same reason they hate Jesus, whom they claim to pray to and worship... well, He was a radical in his day... a hippie... he walked around in sandals, long hair, a beard... he spoke in parables, hanged out with his hoodlum buddies (a gang called "The Disciples"), they sat around talking radical ideas about how the world would be better, equality, understanding and acceptance, fairness, justice, peace, love, progressive ideas like helping the less fortunate and not taking advantage of others... and they drank wine! I guess that Conservatives like to order people around, take advantage of the less fortunate whom they PRETEND to help in order to enslave them financially and rape their lands and people... start wars under false pretenses, enrich their cronies and ignore the elderly, the retired, the disabled and poor... Go figure...!

The worse problem with Conservatives is that they suffer collectively from logorrhea, garrulity, loquacity, effusion, prolixity and abound in tautology and circumlocutory... succinctly stated, they are just plain pleonastic in nature!

We find their version of peace...Surrender At All Costs...offensive.....
Truth...the libs wouldn't know truth if it bit them in the butt
Love..that is by the standards of their NAMBLA membership?
Understanding...that's a laugh..there are more libs insulting people..from GW to the every day person here that cons on the board...Even this post shows their intolerance for a difference of opinion....REMEMBER..free speech...we may not agree but we allow you to express your opinion...pity you don't do the same for others....
