I mean, all these people say that we definitely should have gone into Iraq, that Bush is not trying to tear away our rights one by one, hat Muslims are evil and that Israel is killing a bunch of terrorists in Palestine?

All their opinions are based off of either the media or the opinions of soldiers, who are trained to think like their country wants them to think. I mean, look at all those who abusde Iraqis in the prisions? Those people had clearly been taught that Iraqis weredogs and if they had reasoned anything out I am sure all of them would have decided it was wrong.

Not that I am saying that not everything they are saying is bogus. Just that everyone is just repeating what the media is saying. Yeah, I know there are different views on everything, but ask people to support their views and they have no answer.

As for our rights, that would be your right to privacy that our lovely rep. gov. is slowly taking away by checking your mail, spying n you electronically, and the patriot act. Then there are the people in Guantanmo who have no right to a trial. And freedom of the press? I believe too many things are portrayed one sidedly. Which is mostly why I brought up Iraq, because on the news, everything praises our job there, or at least doesn't denounce it.

Pretty much everything you have said I agree with. I am afraid we have entered another "McCarthy" age in that the truth is continually be repressed. Instead of real news (that is US news channels) viewers are treated to such "news" as the latest Anna Nichole death/paternity Brittney/rehab & Paris Hilton crap. It is a "dumbing down" syndrome - creating "red herrings" instead of dealing with important issues that impact on us all as world citizens.

The best thing to do, if you have access to real news is to check the CBC/BBC or other outlets to find out what is important in the world. Thank you for your thoughtful question, many of us have felt the same way - keep on questioning what you hear and read and keep informed.

And what do you base your opinions on? You make the statement that if they had reasoned it out they would have..... meaning only you have the ability to reason correctly. This is a rather grandiose claim. It is obvious you get your opinions from the media that thinks like you do and consider they are right and unbiased and good and philanthropic and.... so on. All the media has a bias and you do not seem to have the ability to pick your way through it but just believe what your chosen media says regardless.

You are not reasoning, you are not thinking, you are repeating parrot fashion everything trotted out by the left. Why do you think one side has a monopoly on the truth. Reason it out for once.

Just because most people do not share your views doesnt mean they are eating up propaganda.
Most folks arent listening to the pablum of the mainstream media anymore, and they can get enough information to form their own opinions, and it just so happens they think differently than you.
Muslims arent evil as a whole, but its the radicals that are Muslim that presents the problems with terrorism.
BTW, what rights have been taken away? You people are always blabbering about lost rights, yet none of you can produce anything but rhetorical replies. Also, you seem to rationalize that our troops are brainwashed or something. Is that the only way you can deal with the fact that they are professional soldiers doing the job they volunteered to do?

Whom is eating up propaganda here? Methinks its you.

TV isolates individuals and keeps them from corroborating their ideas. So it is much easier to distract them, and lie to them. It doesn't do much good that the teaching of history in this country is nothing more than the regurgitation of 2 centuries worth of propaganda. Furthermore, the newsmedia is in bed with the government, which took severe measures to crush dissent after the Vietnam syndrome (see The Tripartite Commission) and the intelligentsia is successfully giving credence to the absurd excuses of the government. From concealing the hazards of tobacco to falsifying the harmfulness of cannabis, from distorting the history of the cold war to making infantile claims about communism, the intelligentsia thinks for you.

Because they spent 13 or more years in institutions that claimed to educate, but didn't.

When students are never called on to analyze and assess few develop much skill at it.

So people take what they're told, and don't see the holes in it, and don't think things through.

Schools tend to squelch, rather than develop, minds.

"What do we want?"

"Educational reform!"

"When do we want it?"

"NOW!"

A lot of people are too lazy to think for themselves, so just parrot whatever is said by someone else.

Critical thinking is a lost art.

Glad to see your a free thinker. Did you see 'V for Vendetta'? The same goes for the Pres candidates-we shouldn't fall for the two candidates 'they' are highlighting but RESEARCH each one for past histories-it is the Pres of US and we need to stop making errors.
