I have been on depo for over a year and I really like it but the only problem that i have with it that I dont have regural periods but insted Im spotting, which wouldnt bother me that much if it wouldnt last forever. its little bit but for the longest time, and its getting really annoying. Thats why i was wondering if maybe it will be better for me to go back to the pill- i never had a problem with pill and i never missed one so im not scared. But im wondering if its not gonna messed up my hormons and even if i will do everything right i might get pregnant. I dont know how it works. Does anybody know?? thank you for respons :-)

To everyone on or considering depo shots:
(Im 40 yrs old). I was on the shot for 13 years. I stopped last summer because Im celebate and was sick of going through the "routine".(I hate shots lol).
1 week ago I felt a lump in my breast. I had a mammogram and an ultra sound YESTERDAY and found out that I have 9 cysts in my right breast and 4 in my left. I have never had a cyst in my life. yes, this was yesterday. I mentioned to the ultra sound tech that I was afraid of needles (I had heard that they take care of cysts with a needle) even though Ive had the depo shot every 3 months for the past 13 years and was laughing at what a baby I was. Well this woman told me that cysts are a side effect of depo. She then very seriously urged me to get a test that they offer to check for osteoperosis. (sp?) because that can and probably will cause osteoperosis (my gyn confirmed that this is also a side effect from this lovely depo shot. Well, I agree right then to the xray and she told me that I have bone loss in my right hip and qualify as a person with a mild form of osteoperosis. AT 40. I am a person that has never had any medical issues in my life. No history in the family either of osteo or cysts or anything. Im sharing this because I dont want anyone else to go through what I am going through right now. The doc told me that one of the cysts looked cloudy and now I have to go for an mri to make sure its not cancerous. I am a single mom of two teenage daughters whos life was just going along fine. Now Im so stressed out and worried about what else they may find during the mri. Please ladies.....is osteoperosis (I dont even know how to spell the dang word) and breast cysts worth not having periods or the ease of this type of birth control? I can't believe what I am facing right now. Its not the end of the world, but being told at 40 that I have bone loss in a hip and now realizing why my right hip burns when I lay on my side too long is life changing and terrifying. Please get off of this and if you are considering it, dont start it. I feel like no man will ever want me now that I have all of these medical problems and also feel like I am doomed to go through this alone. Please learn from what I am going through and run from this form of birth control. Im sorry if I scared anyone but if it can help just one woman then its worth it.

I was on the depo for about 2 years some years ago. I hated it! They say it's supposed to help regulate you and make your periods lighter. Some women don't have periods at all on it but that's not that common. Some women, like me, have no-stop bleeding while on it. I couldn't tolerate it so I went off of it. If you decide to go back to the pill, your doctor will tell you everything you need to know about making the change. You will start the pills around the time that the depo would be due again.

Everyone reacts differently to depo.

I was on depo for a couple of years and then out of the blue started spotting and having really bad mood swings, so I decided to stop since it wasn't realiable for me anymore and I was become intolerable, even I was having trouble standing myself. I stopped and went back on the pill. Everything was fine until I found out that the pill was the source of my headaches. I stopped those, was bc free for 6 months or so, and I recently decided to go back on depo. I'm only halfway through the first shot and so far no problems.

I don't know why it happens. But maybe you need a break from the depo. It's worth it to try something else.

Okay. It is rare. But it does happen. I was on Depo for 9 months and of that 9 months I only DIDN'T spot/bleed for 3 weeks. And that was a little bit after I decided to switch to the Nuva Ring-which my body also rejected. Some women just don't respond well to hormone birth control. I happen to be one of them. Seems like you may be too. The spotting isn't SUPPOSED to happen-but to the rare few of us-it can. Talk to your OB/GYN about alternative methods of b/c.

Sounds like you need to re-evaluate the shot. You shouldn't be spotting all the time. Each woman is different, so maybe this is the way the hormones effect you.

Talk to your doctor about it and see what they say. If you have had kids, you could do an IUD, but if you haven't then either the pill, patch or nuva ring would work for you. Talk to your doctor about your other options and see what they say.

GET OFF IT RIGHT NOW! i was on depo for about 9 months and i ruined all my underwear cuz the spotting would come and go, plus i had a har time getting pregnant after, almost two years.. i have friends that were on it two and they had the same troubles cuz after you get off of it your periods will never be the same they will be worse and irregular. i really believe depo is unhealthy and should be taken off the market! anyone else agree?????

You're not suppose to get a period at all. How long have you been on the shot? Have you spotted the entire time or did it jut start? If your spotting is becoming annoying I suggest switching to another method. It won't hurt you to spot though.

when I have been given the dep. shot i began recognizing a pair of month in, and it lasted till the subsequent shot. in case you purchased the shot on your arm and not your buttock, then it particularly is in all probability the case. Get it on your buttock next time. in the experience that your particularly worried go on your checklist, yet possibilities of you being pregnant are particularly narrow. the dep. shot takes impact interior 24 hours.
